I envisioned her meticulously sketching out a design and then painting it lovingly onto the wood; her little tongue captured between her teeth like she does when she's concentrating, and at the end of it all I'd have a masterpiece and keepsake. <br />
<br />
Yeah, that didn't happen. Between Minecraft videos and video games, she just couldn't find the time and when I kicked her off the internet and pried her fingers off the controller and told her I'd force her to work on it, she was so unenthused that she was just planning on smacking paint all over it like a toddler. <br />
<br />
So instead of focusing on my failures as a mother and inspirational goddess, I decided I'd just trick this birdhouse out myself. I recently purchased a wood burning tool (I've been wanting to try it for years) and this was my second project with it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLlLq0uT8HXjdEPI_O7ZG85Zj4O0XcV26qPyLP2dCE-wGDQpUWwb662rXdbU7liSDAIHzSKVQtIFW1-YaZcUZuiXzYf4iAQUH6-nF1_8ZZEM6xg1QEo-oVUSRD4z-ECs3t24qdGkQHglw/s1600/IMG_5200_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLlLq0uT8HXjdEPI_O7ZG85Zj4O0XcV26qPyLP2dCE-wGDQpUWwb662rXdbU7liSDAIHzSKVQtIFW1-YaZcUZuiXzYf4iAQUH6-nF1_8ZZEM6xg1QEo-oVUSRD4z-ECs3t24qdGkQHglw/s640/IMG_5200_edited-1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I found this lovely vintage tablecloth at Salvation Army last year and it was my source of inspiration. <br />
<br />
It needed a bit of color. I didn't want it to be too vibrant or cover up the wood burning so I used this set of watercolors from IKEA and then put a couple layers of clear coat on it. <br />

I was pretty proud of it and I knew when my daughter saw it she would be green with envy that I had created such a masterpiece when she could have done the same. I'll never know though, since I haven't been able to get her off YouTube to look at it. Oh wait, yes I can. You know things just got overwhelming there for a while. I needed to pull back and focus on other things. The kids, my career, etc. Did I miss it? Yeah a bit, but mostly I didn't and that was a great sign that pulling back was for the best. <br />
<br />
Why am I back now? Well, the kids are older and less dependent. One is officially a teen (13) and the other one insists on being called a "tween" because her age is in the double digits now. Life is still busy, work is still there, but something was missing so I started spending more time doing the things I love again.<br />
<br />
I still don't have the time or stamina to do enough crafting to produce a ton of products to sell, but I found that I was able to spend more time on my other passion, which was scouring thrift stores, garage sales, flea markets, and auctions for unique and interesting vintage items. First I did it just for myself and then when things started piling up around the house I decided I should maybe start paring down.That's when I started posting some vintage items for sale on Etsy and I find its been a really great outlet for me. It allows me to pass on some really cool stuff to other people and to earn enough money to continue my vintage shopping!<br />
<br />
So I guess you could say I'm back - but just a little less crafty. Now, that's not to say I haven't done any crafting. Way back in 2013 I wrote about my passion for this <a href="http://pinandpaper.blogspot.com/2013/02/its-okay-to-be-jealous.html" target="_blank">crocheted blanket from the Smurf's movie</a>. <br />
<br />
Well, it was truly a passion and I started on my own version of it shortly after I wrote that post and now - over three years later - it's done!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYcV2fZ1e7LOuul-SIP_sDmPqD7swPGeGPNq7Zs03Y3ezDDPHsRQ9f0Loz7-fRXm4yk554lmMHWeE2rbnK3Fnfqm8Bd7KnSux9i05QO78lk4Iv57A4en_hQ3x9D0wOOah_muMF02s1xuE/s1600/CrochetBlanket4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYcV2fZ1e7LOuul-SIP_sDmPqD7swPGeGPNq7Zs03Y3ezDDPHsRQ9f0Loz7-fRXm4yk554lmMHWeE2rbnK3Fnfqm8Bd7KnSux9i05QO78lk4Iv57A4en_hQ3x9D0wOOah_muMF02s1xuE/s640/CrochetBlanket4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Now, I didn't work on it for three straight years - just a bit here and there when I had time. I crocheted most of the blocks during soccer practices and little league games over the course of several months. Then once I felt I had enough blocks then it took me over a month to find just the right way to put them all together and piece them together. I actually finished it last fall but just hadn't gotten around to photographing it until now. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvg4Vq5Ywmxwsn_lV9G_uQx7T169DEnnKx4deJ9lh0iRdNIZwSpAHpSaOI5m4X4ITbYnyOFcBXLEpUTfDtQmjdDLDXuerACqYHp_QFZRNdzmZMnXR2vb6Y6vUsZIa4nrPyQiAook620Ls/s1600/CrochetBlanket1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvg4Vq5Ywmxwsn_lV9G_uQx7T169DEnnKx4deJ9lh0iRdNIZwSpAHpSaOI5m4X4ITbYnyOFcBXLEpUTfDtQmjdDLDXuerACqYHp_QFZRNdzmZMnXR2vb6Y6vUsZIa4nrPyQiAook620Ls/s640/CrochetBlanket1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It's heavy. It's not straight or square. The border always curls up on it. You can see where I did a lackluster job of weaving in several yarn ends. But I LOVE IT so very very much. It's just what I wanted - something bold and crazy that looks like it was crocheted by someone's hippie great aunt. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNipZkHJtJY-uBCdMIz0qhXCLnzsgtn9p79IdlTWWgxuhd7GZJ4kKhHOVP_0YogTmEf2QNeUgeSUKb2DfhDZSNdHXu-09l55mqFIEGOuRgM3kZUYfnsoShe0DXYqrie0PFD5mMSacbf00/s1600/CrochetBlanket6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1068" data-original-width="1600" height="425" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNipZkHJtJY-uBCdMIz0qhXCLnzsgtn9p79IdlTWWgxuhd7GZJ4kKhHOVP_0YogTmEf2QNeUgeSUKb2DfhDZSNdHXu-09l55mqFIEGOuRgM3kZUYfnsoShe0DXYqrie0PFD5mMSacbf00/s640/CrochetBlanket6.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I hope it becomes a family heirloom and a couple generations from now, someone pulls it out of a trunk and says, "Look at this crazy, ridiculous thing! We'll let the dog sleep on it."

<br />
As you can probably guess from my 7 month absence from posting, I haven't done a whole lot of crafting lately. However, the beauty (and sometimes the curse) of the internet, is that once things are put on it - they float around and gain a life of their own. <br />
<br />
So I was slightly surprised when I received an email from a lovely magazine requesting to feature a project I posted on this blog way back in 2010. I was completely flattered and I felt kind of like some D list celebrity still earning credit for some cheesy cult classic film they were in a decade earlier. Be on the lookout for my Hallmark channel movie coming out soon, I'll be co-starring alongside Molly Ringwald and Steve Guttenberg!<br />
<img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5475787776415274722" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjahSGa6UV3w9nBMvZZnvUidYDBI1Ow1va6J81g3yMI2vmAogYQ9bENWbbjb5q72Ll6z-dmt-0pGqaZ1Isl7p_1ORl2g-OM4KrMpEbEuK6teYU8YwctMyEig43TSePhPvm6r82mTkHOI_8/s400/DSC_0112_edited-1.jpg" style="display: block; height: 354px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
The project was my <a href="http://www.pinandpaper.blogspot.com/2010/05/recycled-can-lid-plant-markers.html" target="_blank">Recycled Can Lid Plant Markers</a> and I'm happy to say that those can lid markers were much more successful than the poor plants I marked them with (I really should stop trying to garden - it's incredibly sad).<br />
<br />
The magazine is Mother Earth Living and they've put together a very lovely Handmade Holiday section in their November/December issue, featuring several quick, easy and thoughtful handmade holiday gift ideas. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
They sent me a complimentary copy of the magazine and I must say I'm enjoying every page of it. It's got tons of great tips on living every aspect of life: like food, skincare, sleep, etc., a little more healthily (is that a word?) and naturally. I'm most impressed with how practical and non pretentious it is. I've met some pretty high and might flax seed toting Granola's in my day and the vibe of this magazine is nothing like that. </div>

So a big shout out and thanks to Mother Earth Living for including me in your fantastic magazine!</div>

<br />
I stumbled across this Pin the other day:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUMKVF9Rh-s9RjnGTRbLCmNMseStQezyPrCKVVnL3Nd4eEX5xfEiUWXig8UzY6_QVRFNLo5P4fAfYpqBu5ZJM-XvJnROQ7P0rVBxu_KccvH0EAPofHGmjE1mJJxACjIfkTG9pM1PttHiE/s1600/tulips.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUMKVF9Rh-s9RjnGTRbLCmNMseStQezyPrCKVVnL3Nd4eEX5xfEiUWXig8UzY6_QVRFNLo5P4fAfYpqBu5ZJM-XvJnROQ7P0rVBxu_KccvH0EAPofHGmjE1mJJxACjIfkTG9pM1PttHiE/s1600/tulips.jpg" /></a></div>
The idea is to place some small pebbles or marbles in the bottom of a vase, place a tulip bulp on top of them, add a bit of water just up to the roots and then enjoy the colors of spring. <br />
<br />
It seemed easy enough, and I'll spare you the suspense by telling you that yes, it did actually work. I did a little twist on it though that I thought I would share. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsMM5SQdJtasni57EaaU3WdCMxkV7a9BP4i7LJb10OVdGoyITTvEomuzdDjm281QaczjqmQBmfpbbpWqlv3frP0t3eNtpq9zocynKLv8tmidDrRPSm0TB0Cgr3GP6iTfsfEH5_yY7-cQI/s1600/DSC_0186.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsMM5SQdJtasni57EaaU3WdCMxkV7a9BP4i7LJb10OVdGoyITTvEomuzdDjm281QaczjqmQBmfpbbpWqlv3frP0t3eNtpq9zocynKLv8tmidDrRPSm0TB0Cgr3GP6iTfsfEH5_yY7-cQI/s320/DSC_0186.JPG" width="252" /></a></div>
Instead of using vases, I used vintage glass insulators. I love the color and shape of them and they worked great for this project as the interior of them is very narrow which allows the root of the bulb to have access to the water without need of marbles or rocks at the bottom. <br />

However, some rocks were needed at the top of the bulb to secure it in place. <br />

The only downfalls I found were that it was difficult to gauge the water level without removing the bulb to look, and also the tulips had a tendency to grow at an angle without having any support on the sides. <br />

It was still lots of fun and a great way to use some vintage stuff I had lying around.Pin and Paperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17144325003334135178noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4672264891460644538.post-46137704839233818002013-03-21T01:00:00.000-07:002013-03-21T01:00:06.144-07:00Thought Provoking Thursday - Barefoot Sandals<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Today’s topic: Barefoot sandals, adorable foot accessory, OR one more unnecessarily adorned step toward the decline of society as we know
it? You be the judge.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA4YoKbUN7PlOmX0KhlnB-v6ILOgi-8ZRi93DiCDDcP5_NVQB81rrXpH1tncx4f-5VwVpmeTTuqmMHfEv3hzH2xf2iIS8ViNTy44T5W4F0y_9Fb5_GZRy3PcDxxSOPdQGnhS1bc8P-tpo/s1600/sandal16.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA4YoKbUN7PlOmX0KhlnB-v6ILOgi-8ZRi93DiCDDcP5_NVQB81rrXpH1tncx4f-5VwVpmeTTuqmMHfEv3hzH2xf2iIS8ViNTy44T5W4F0y_9Fb5_GZRy3PcDxxSOPdQGnhS1bc8P-tpo/s1600/sandal16.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Have you seen these barefoot sandal things?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I first saw them for babies, and I thought,
“okay, yeah that would be cute for a photo shoot or something maybe”, and then
I started seeing them everywhere.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Barefoot sandals for beach weddings, barefoot sandals just because.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Barefoot sandals made out of ribbons,
crocheted barefoot sandals, beaded barefoot sandals. It’s all starting to get
ridiculous. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7RInAKxvnmI7_tlJV8CEvvu-vHEuwhng6-ry2XDZQIXz4_Cq3pipggap5L_vwWaInQBQqDlnYpaQiXpYVHYtl4UAxMLUPeKFH3dyf7a78NSbR3horppXzq7bApBCdmnkh5ZO1oKdraRs/s1600/sandal9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7RInAKxvnmI7_tlJV8CEvvu-vHEuwhng6-ry2XDZQIXz4_Cq3pipggap5L_vwWaInQBQqDlnYpaQiXpYVHYtl4UAxMLUPeKFH3dyf7a78NSbR3horppXzq7bApBCdmnkh5ZO1oKdraRs/s1600/sandal9.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">However, before I totally discounted this new trend, I
wanted to look at both sides of the issue for a fair and accurate assessment of
this new foray into dorsal pedis ornamentation (you like that? – it took a full
5 minutes of googling medical terminology to come up with that phrase!). </span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Ahem, okay, let’s start with the “Adorable foot accessory”
stance.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">-Other than socks or baby booties it might possibly be the
only halfway practical infant footwear. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Everyone knows that one person who went out and bought a pair of $50 baby Nike’s for a 2 month old. Babies don’t need shoes because, NEWSFLASH, babies don’t walk.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Junior isn’t going to need that non slip sole okay – not even when he starts rolling over.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>“My baby walked at 3 weeks because of those mini Air Jordan’s I got him”SAID NO ONE EVER!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">-They are adorable for photos.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiM0ynPhyphenhyphenvWvHi5I8TUaMXfDqj14I_HRgH8c1jUgJsUXXzC4UwMLXKf4UsR3H6cdhFLvICe6PT5_AjQ0FCSgX1WH4_QKaylY4Vd8j0THNmpGpeAGNqdGyWHYopO4BpUl_Ude_otxVo4bI4/s1600/sandal11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiM0ynPhyphenhyphenvWvHi5I8TUaMXfDqj14I_HRgH8c1jUgJsUXXzC4UwMLXKf4UsR3H6cdhFLvICe6PT5_AjQ0FCSgX1WH4_QKaylY4Vd8j0THNmpGpeAGNqdGyWHYopO4BpUl_Ude_otxVo4bI4/s1600/sandal11.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-tab-count: 1;"> </span></span><span style="font-family: Calibri;">I
happen to think that baby feet are adorable enough in themselves, but if your
child is cursed with abnormally ugly feet even as an infant, what better way to
disguise them?</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">-They actually kind of make sense for a beach wedding. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWxwh4AaqOpHlRwvw7fP9Eh_vqaN-YOyVZ8nnnbcI5pEyMH3Hpn2uiJ2ayTDPPsq_3H9_6XL_fFPwDqzd59t5pGaYObT7EmjKW3zbS36tkpNSH-5FcngvJxYtzOMqAUbMzstrGvchM7Po/s1600/sandal7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWxwh4AaqOpHlRwvw7fP9Eh_vqaN-YOyVZ8nnnbcI5pEyMH3Hpn2uiJ2ayTDPPsq_3H9_6XL_fFPwDqzd59t5pGaYObT7EmjKW3zbS36tkpNSH-5FcngvJxYtzOMqAUbMzstrGvchM7Po/s1600/sandal7.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-tab-count: 1;"> </span>It’s
one day, your day and you’re having a beautiful ceremony right there on the
beach where you two first met.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>You had
fallen asleep and had 2<span style="font-size: x-small;">nd</span> degree burns on your back, he smacked you
squarely between the shoulder blades with a volleyball.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Now as you stand in that same spot exchanging
your vows, you can glance down at your green beaded barefoot sandals and be
reminded of those blissful early days of your relationship when he used an
entire vat of aloe vera gel to soothe your pain and win your heart. </span></div>
<o:p><span style="font-family: Calibri;">That's all I've got for the "pro" side of this debate.</span></o:p><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Now onto the “Decline of society” stance:</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">- First off, the name is an oxymoron.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>“Barefoot” indicating that there is nothing
on your foot!!! And then “sandal” which is defined as – well something on your
foot!</span></div>

these issues<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>are on the top of the

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">I love to pop some tags.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>I’ve quite often only got 20 dollars in my pocket and I’m always looking
for a come up.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">I find some of my best things at thrift stores, flea markets
and garage sales.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Most of them I keep
for myself because I couldn’t bear to part with them.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Others end up in the vintage section of my
Etsy shop. I hate to keep them all to myself though so<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I thought I’d take the
opportunity of sharing some of my thrifted treasures with you.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Today I’m showing off my chalkware owl.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This gem was purchased in the former chicken
shed of some stranger’s acreage, for I think around $6. I could tell you the
back story behind that but I think it’s much more intriguing if I let you come
up with an explanation your own.</span><br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">I adore chalkware.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I’m not sure why.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Probably because the things that are made out of it are usually incredibly bizarre or incredibly cute. <br />
"Hi, good. How was yours?"<br />
<br />
<em>"Not bad. Do anything exciting?"</em><br />
<br />
"Hmmm, well I watched <em>The Smurf's</em> with the kids on DVD."<br />
<br />
"<em>Did they like it?"</em><br />
<br />
"Yeah, for the most part. They kind of lost interest though towards the end."<br />
<br />
<em>"Was it getting a little slow?"</em><br />
<br />
"No, not really. It's just I had to pause it to go get my camera and then I had to keep rewinding with it and fiddling with the right angle to take some pictures of this great crocheted afghan that was in one of the scenes - you know so I could figure out how to make it."<br />

Some people just can't handle the awesomeness of my life. <br />
No, really, guess . . .<br />
I'm waiting . . . <br />
<br />
Okay, fine - some people like guessing games you know. . . but obviously you're not one of them so I'll just go ahead and tell you.<br />
<br />
It's me!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5ZPTXLrwnofQz8urEXOKZiywXZGIq3r2amqvtvnKM1VgdggiGNOaBdc9oC1zOLqUxsRZ3rV4KRhyiUYP-nqKwPzhXioZRfCsvQTu7HgxOoFSu1YSIi68nJvJCiZ8JbWTzYKlfA20dMdc/s1600/DSC_0199.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5ZPTXLrwnofQz8urEXOKZiywXZGIq3r2amqvtvnKM1VgdggiGNOaBdc9oC1zOLqUxsRZ3rV4KRhyiUYP-nqKwPzhXioZRfCsvQTu7HgxOoFSu1YSIi68nJvJCiZ8JbWTzYKlfA20dMdc/s320/DSC_0199.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I've actually got 5 new items in the shop. Granted, they're all variations of the same product but hey, progress has been made!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVcJaAkwv_4_HmQdr_WC_lrsgwGOO8skb125txeo99jUrMtn1zayzVD3MDHElmWhFsROmX3cl1MLN9fF4P9BoKq6orpLWP8rTVDogetdToezgjaZttmz6QVXXCEiQSo5zSIrFEcnM3gvo/s1600/DSC_0210.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVcJaAkwv_4_HmQdr_WC_lrsgwGOO8skb125txeo99jUrMtn1zayzVD3MDHElmWhFsROmX3cl1MLN9fF4P9BoKq6orpLWP8rTVDogetdToezgjaZttmz6QVXXCEiQSo5zSIrFEcnM3gvo/s320/DSC_0210.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I think they're adorable and would be a perfect gift for a soon to be mom or someone who just really likes animals that wear hats, or shirts with no pants, or overalls with no shirts - what the hell?! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8anay4S0Q41k55YRtcxrEn49_lN06o3OpBsO1nBuniRP_N43vSTMytG6m-v4WLK7qSMZkMxmFJU2braDSsPkcJdj_LLI4yZzi72XFqQZ_MecThiI3qxWbuTKLOnui70qXkdN2kk6jNf8/s1600/DSC_0223.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8anay4S0Q41k55YRtcxrEn49_lN06o3OpBsO1nBuniRP_N43vSTMytG6m-v4WLK7qSMZkMxmFJU2braDSsPkcJdj_LLI4yZzi72XFqQZ_MecThiI3qxWbuTKLOnui70qXkdN2kk6jNf8/s320/DSC_0223.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Really I'd like to think that anyone who enjoys vintage children's book illustrations would like one of these cute little keychains. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTlB0iOWdxmd2mthYDhIhTJ06RT8qJrGvaQdU1R8LRW-UDuYQyD3BmAFFL85PdwUuy54_lZ7ScHeVgh8Pa1E07qmstxgNrbdzr6Q5XK5Sy8kJKRyhv01j5KZsVMsdFikjPb92EeUV75VE/s1600/DSC_0222.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTlB0iOWdxmd2mthYDhIhTJ06RT8qJrGvaQdU1R8LRW-UDuYQyD3BmAFFL85PdwUuy54_lZ7ScHeVgh8Pa1E07qmstxgNrbdzr6Q5XK5Sy8kJKRyhv01j5KZsVMsdFikjPb92EeUV75VE/s320/DSC_0222.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I'm glad I finally found a use for some of the older vintage books I've picked up at garage sales and flea markets. These weren't in the best of shape but since the images are small I was able to rescue and preserve some of them on these little wooden cubes. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I mean spicing it up interior design wise. <br />
<br />
I determined that I wanted my jewelry on display instead of hidden away in my jewelry case. I find that when it's visible it gets worn a lot often, plus it seems a shame to keep things that I find so attractive and sentimental inside a drawer. <br />
<br />
I started by displaying my necklaces. This was as simple as screwing some cup hooks into the bottom of an already existing shelf. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPGeDCJwbMQBDXpts4vsV7w8kY7NvccO_kOCdNkDmA6SmpYszvZK4J7dKcCFZsCdOC4PDq3LeNoG3oluySdXoIJql3Y3O5p2bAK4AZqatN1SBVV5JjHEE1DjPLPj-56OKSVw_B5lZ8foo/s1600/DSC_0191_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPGeDCJwbMQBDXpts4vsV7w8kY7NvccO_kOCdNkDmA6SmpYszvZK4J7dKcCFZsCdOC4PDq3LeNoG3oluySdXoIJql3Y3O5p2bAK4AZqatN1SBVV5JjHEE1DjPLPj-56OKSVw_B5lZ8foo/s320/DSC_0191_edited-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I took an old photo frame, replaced the backing with a piece of foam core, wrapped it with a layer of quilt batting and white fabric and made my own mini pin board for my brooches.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8jrs9RHW8rmGUCnjnE5-BV908E2-JUvZypk-ItxCKjO2OX6JYxS3ZgggqctGMLdlcFqvhFL7woEtJrKNWrTfxcN4D8wTwnF06UrOoFTVodPfrnaK245LjSGXpimjXcP_mU79nxtrmh4U/s1600/DSC_0193_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8jrs9RHW8rmGUCnjnE5-BV908E2-JUvZypk-ItxCKjO2OX6JYxS3ZgggqctGMLdlcFqvhFL7woEtJrKNWrTfxcN4D8wTwnF06UrOoFTVodPfrnaK245LjSGXpimjXcP_mU79nxtrmh4U/s320/DSC_0193_edited-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then it was on to my favorite things - my rings. I have a recent obsession with what my friends like to call "big ass rings" and I needed somewhere to display them. I solved that problem with some frames and felt:<br />

<br />
Here's a quick how to in case anyone is interested. <br />
<br />
I started with some fabulous IKEA frames - of course you can use whatever frames you have available.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS59jJOgWJW7eOFceDEB4wAe8LFdnSW_v9d9AypBOgV_Ta7l_oak4cXJW31f6deRlPD79JRa6KUQJiq2jQoxBh6rOt2vSCXDWDKKQcg1SPSIWUGDPmZk4LMjF25v1VaLc05G0ENJg-fBU/s1600/DSC_0076+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS59jJOgWJW7eOFceDEB4wAe8LFdnSW_v9d9AypBOgV_Ta7l_oak4cXJW31f6deRlPD79JRa6KUQJiq2jQoxBh6rOt2vSCXDWDKKQcg1SPSIWUGDPmZk4LMjF25v1VaLc05G0ENJg-fBU/s320/DSC_0076+%25283%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I had to remove their backs and the glass (which was actually plastic). Then I got out my stash of felt and started rolling up some tampons. Or at least that's what they started looking like to me. I had to do some experimentation to determine how much felt was needed for each roll. My white felt was quite thick (super absorbency) and I only needed about 5 inches in length. The width was about 1 inch longer than the width of my frame opening. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC5Pl7bCqQgzNZUi8d1A3O1Yh8BDg82CowGkOwzf5_K7OhP9782wH3_1ev_9dZ5_2i4MeG-sDujG7y_EqpSsgzWfTTutUuWiJNBo_Zz_DBD8NH21_ZW7RjeJ7ugnY68GcQyThG9ehUd78/s1600/DSC_0078+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC5Pl7bCqQgzNZUi8d1A3O1Yh8BDg82CowGkOwzf5_K7OhP9782wH3_1ev_9dZ5_2i4MeG-sDujG7y_EqpSsgzWfTTutUuWiJNBo_Zz_DBD8NH21_ZW7RjeJ7ugnY68GcQyThG9ehUd78/s320/DSC_0078+%25282%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I used a line of hot glue to hold my roll together. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3b5KFIFgZYmY8dSUioY4ot7g64Gnja38yPdNduahju327yQGOxIENh5M47PhzrqTNq09gVCtd_wX8QA6BJcdsNcpBJP0i9RfcPimDAqx4UEdOkPFScVFtzTQuqBrOe8jOh-_HDeh8Vnw/s1600/DSC_0096_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3b5KFIFgZYmY8dSUioY4ot7g64Gnja38yPdNduahju327yQGOxIENh5M47PhzrqTNq09gVCtd_wX8QA6BJcdsNcpBJP0i9RfcPimDAqx4UEdOkPFScVFtzTQuqBrOe8jOh-_HDeh8Vnw/s320/DSC_0096_edited-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When I had enough I hot glued them to a piece of cardboard sligtly larger than my frame opening. Be sure to hot glue them securely and as tight together as possible. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEBu9r7m8eDzDDKMOgVL2No9uEiwxNxBhlIvBKREXicB85NqDv-njb2woieIzisAlc3j8fUIJJGiXIrH7s2iIOckqFiwy-P6cFVI-Q2Ntq-1aGc6wWxJLH2cCNAzF0v0hssBN8rsRr1Uc/s1600/DSC_0097+%25283%2529_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="178" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEBu9r7m8eDzDDKMOgVL2No9uEiwxNxBhlIvBKREXicB85NqDv-njb2woieIzisAlc3j8fUIJJGiXIrH7s2iIOckqFiwy-P6cFVI-Q2Ntq-1aGc6wWxJLH2cCNAzF0v0hssBN8rsRr1Uc/s320/DSC_0097+%25283%2529_edited-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This is when things got really high tech! I couldn't use the original back of my frame as it wouldn't accomodate the thickness of my felt, so I used the handyman's greatest tool - duct tape. It looks classy though because I got the white duct tape to match my frame!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZn40bTfs08Trcz6JlaEKwwqsv9_G1OdkOJO_FiE7mG38_Exzxz3zbaQBNUtpw_3V8wEFPdKsv3dVjYS9YIbpG3NWeEwATOcvXdbGPDq2Fz3JtTB1BxXYE3FxSCaDuCApF9vtxGMHm5Yc/s1600/DSC_0099+%25282%2529_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZn40bTfs08Trcz6JlaEKwwqsv9_G1OdkOJO_FiE7mG38_Exzxz3zbaQBNUtpw_3V8wEFPdKsv3dVjYS9YIbpG3NWeEwATOcvXdbGPDq2Fz3JtTB1BxXYE3FxSCaDuCApF9vtxGMHm5Yc/s320/DSC_0099+%25282%2529_edited-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
It worked quite well. I used some command strips to hold this one to the wall and it's been 4 months and it hasn't fallen apart yet so I'm calling that a success!<br />
<br />
I used a nice burnt orange felt on my other frame. It wasn't as thick as the white so I ended up rolling up about 7 inches instead of 5, but aside from that everything else was the same. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrvXKqNFEGuiJoke4JykKAXd1-XhRphs0JzOb16ZrMHTmoqayxUGabpXR4yH2ec7F55rGlIIyA9w5afgbpV4oMtZ38q9REer_VNfLrMZzfEa_K96Dnt4sjuGx_WA03Hwq6mz9D79Fvh_Q/s1600/DSC_0105+%25282%2529_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrvXKqNFEGuiJoke4JykKAXd1-XhRphs0JzOb16ZrMHTmoqayxUGabpXR4yH2ec7F55rGlIIyA9w5afgbpV4oMtZ38q9REer_VNfLrMZzfEa_K96Dnt4sjuGx_WA03Hwq6mz9D79Fvh_Q/s320/DSC_0105+%25282%2529_edited-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I wanted this one to stand on my shelf so I used my duct tape and some really sturdy cardboard to create a stand on the back. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaTM92JSepwTiyQ-Roh7N8hIaajq_E2lTxceGhv307khT5xcVBA0DB5Hwg_0wHSz-3_QyMpniKYgvQcgNdCoQ__ntyjPVcveCAhamj4YGfyxFup4te2eJhROZMUaHx6b-Mr6pxXgawIeU/s1600/DSC_0102_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="257" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaTM92JSepwTiyQ-Roh7N8hIaajq_E2lTxceGhv307khT5xcVBA0DB5Hwg_0wHSz-3_QyMpniKYgvQcgNdCoQ__ntyjPVcveCAhamj4YGfyxFup4te2eJhROZMUaHx6b-Mr6pxXgawIeU/s320/DSC_0102_edited-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Hope you can use some of these techniques to create your own jewelry displays.<br />

Bookends as floating bookshelvesI recently switched bedrooms with my children and so I've been spending some time redecorating it with Pinterest inspired projects. One of these projects was this floating book, bookshelf idea.<br />
<br />
Here's the <a href="http://www.buzzfeed.com/peggy/31-insanely-easy-and-clever-diy-projects" target="_blank">original pin</a>: <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3cYl07zxynErqQPWRa6pav7C2xmM8jKqk-vORODcWyhAonZ8USBGGQGfTWEj9EuXunettgUi6b10ajrnDzYYoZU5-vI6JdtSvfPyZuVCrzyJ25HXxMbdQw0QAgEdCsCe8T0P7zNZBLh8/s1600/137993176053448276_wsxTEVFn_c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3cYl07zxynErqQPWRa6pav7C2xmM8jKqk-vORODcWyhAonZ8USBGGQGfTWEj9EuXunettgUi6b10ajrnDzYYoZU5-vI6JdtSvfPyZuVCrzyJ25HXxMbdQw0QAgEdCsCe8T0P7zNZBLh8/s320/137993176053448276_wsxTEVFn_c.jpg" width="79" /></a></div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3cYl07zxynErqQPWRa6pav7C2xmM8jKqk-vORODcWyhAonZ8USBGGQGfTWEj9EuXunettgUi6b10ajrnDzYYoZU5-vI6JdtSvfPyZuVCrzyJ25HXxMbdQw0QAgEdCsCe8T0P7zNZBLh8/s1600/137993176053448276_wsxTEVFn_c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><br />
<div style="text-align: left;" unselectable="on">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now the original pin didn't have any instructions, but it seemed simple enough. Get a metal bookend, screw it to the wall, add books and Bob's your uncle you're rocking out some sweet floating bookshelves right? Well not quite. But I got it accomplished:</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2kJxzbOGWfkcu8t8e2qdTb3hQlUW9mM_ZDd7C3yzqm1aqeuMM0eba4WACY9Oqjc5ZBAnjbACdxkQnV9CT_yyorNQFcmPRL-1FIvKJT8nwIW5GtTRc1UpEuJnBae0mk-DAchhd0ZB-EMs/s1600/DSC_0182_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2kJxzbOGWfkcu8t8e2qdTb3hQlUW9mM_ZDd7C3yzqm1aqeuMM0eba4WACY9Oqjc5ZBAnjbACdxkQnV9CT_yyorNQFcmPRL-1FIvKJT8nwIW5GtTRc1UpEuJnBae0mk-DAchhd0ZB-EMs/s320/DSC_0182_edited-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When I started planning on actually putting it together I asked myself, "How the hell is the bottom cover of that book attached to the bookend Also, as a sad consequence of the current state of our economy, the local Bookends R Us store went out of business so I couldn't even find a bookend that would work for this project.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhieAY4uq8NLPqssVNUBG4Wfj6cvJ8VVg8U17HMUf211fxMngK96ROhdgAengSZhq5OQ1Tk1_SEecGZD-4YozuOK9wvjOESjSoywvxCQsHCwhZCTfM6_EzugZeoPdaYrVXPEWu1yzgbSW4/s1600/DSC_0184_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhieAY4uq8NLPqssVNUBG4Wfj6cvJ8VVg8U17HMUf211fxMngK96ROhdgAengSZhq5OQ1Tk1_SEecGZD-4YozuOK9wvjOESjSoywvxCQsHCwhZCTfM6_EzugZeoPdaYrVXPEWu1yzgbSW4/s320/DSC_0184_edited-1.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm sure maybe I could have found something online but I have no patience so I just went to my local hardware store and found the thinnest metal brace I could find. This was from the decking section and is intended to secure the posts to the frame or something along those lines. It was around $4. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf2FY4aau9Vc9lsdBURQt1PtecFkXD8Ksg3kXVgeNODewLkf3KjrI5htf34BT3k2_rQ57tjmOUzHIRcHZzZ26D3HgdcJkuLmF_INh6L0Ci5keKsV7jdIaT-31GWADu0SgaBtanjzSxW1w/s1600/DSC_0108.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf2FY4aau9Vc9lsdBURQt1PtecFkXD8Ksg3kXVgeNODewLkf3KjrI5htf34BT3k2_rQ57tjmOUzHIRcHZzZ26D3HgdcJkuLmF_INh6L0Ci5keKsV7jdIaT-31GWADu0SgaBtanjzSxW1w/s320/DSC_0108.JPG" width="320" /></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also got some small screws (about 1/2 inch long) and a lovely hard cover book from the dollar store. I had come up with several scenarios as to how to possibly attach the book to the bracket so that it wouldn't be permanent, but they all just seemed too complex. I also contemplated just using some double sided tape or other semi-removable adhesive so that the bottom book could be removed, but since I knew I'd have other books stacked on top of it, I really wanted that bottom book securely fastened to the brace. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuWGDAs1UvKr657D793wrce2bRdkKSw5KGeLpVkHQQtTVxYHWxBZn4rX6MaIZ01EC9jE9Bg1kiccKQgRO0rstfMUWTO6dY4pTOYSaguVR8HaSxSzg3TfWoVka6Hyo3IcZ5im1WXUn7deg/s1600/DSC_0111.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuWGDAs1UvKr657D793wrce2bRdkKSw5KGeLpVkHQQtTVxYHWxBZn4rX6MaIZ01EC9jE9Bg1kiccKQgRO0rstfMUWTO6dY4pTOYSaguVR8HaSxSzg3TfWoVka6Hyo3IcZ5im1WXUn7deg/s320/DSC_0111.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So if you attempt this project just bite the bullet and find some cheap book you don't care about, but like the cover of. I removed the dust jacket, marked the center of the cover and just screwed the bracket directly into the book. My screws went through the cover and a little bit into the pages to make it nice and secure. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQaVAamuXbD6xvurXFQMpGgsc__8LVWROTIvZpISHzk2Q_cj1L6lXqbXbBWqZvlRRPSZHj9BcAADM1eVSIM5XiQgFGUKysFrc2X9WCJEFvDPXksE29IW-laD-54jB4kk-TytFIpwFVzOM/s1600/DSC_0115.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQaVAamuXbD6xvurXFQMpGgsc__8LVWROTIvZpISHzk2Q_cj1L6lXqbXbBWqZvlRRPSZHj9BcAADM1eVSIM5XiQgFGUKysFrc2X9WCJEFvDPXksE29IW-laD-54jB4kk-TytFIpwFVzOM/s320/DSC_0115.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbfYaq4tRZIXZfCE_G4f91a09YlcbQwnavNXSMvBYP3nb1kE-zGVQ8pw5gaCyK-mOl9JCVUowAQotGMzTo6kgWEQvSlF5lqUjmy4Zxdp1UpqAKO12RjwY1yGBr-hrXo61keE9HXT2zuqg/s1600/DSC_0116.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbfYaq4tRZIXZfCE_G4f91a09YlcbQwnavNXSMvBYP3nb1kE-zGVQ8pw5gaCyK-mOl9JCVUowAQotGMzTo6kgWEQvSlF5lqUjmy4Zxdp1UpqAKO12RjwY1yGBr-hrXo61keE9HXT2zuqg/s320/DSC_0116.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now all you need to do is slip the dust jacket back on to your book. Mark and cut out a section from the back flap and then pry up the edges of the pages and slide it back in. This covers up your bracket and screws. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4r99mzvWXetkesqWfyrQNcD6jVwFVEUe2GJixOQLOpNbtQFJ-7QSA_l2ElvYvDNoH1hVuLgcqRCOPQ0G4TUXzIYa2A6_QA9TZT2DQBvE56cULCqdVOCLZ9nDAa-gum26Wanwa7SnYC-k/s1600/DSC_0119.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4r99mzvWXetkesqWfyrQNcD6jVwFVEUe2GJixOQLOpNbtQFJ-7QSA_l2ElvYvDNoH1hVuLgcqRCOPQ0G4TUXzIYa2A6_QA9TZT2DQBvE56cULCqdVOCLZ9nDAa-gum26Wanwa7SnYC-k/s320/DSC_0119.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then it's just a matter of screwing your bracket to the wall, adding your books and topping it with a gnome or two. It's a requirement people, everything is better with gnomes!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-z8FsiLx48YlQpHsrvXM6FvlAF8cTG65IU4txkrpbAb5Jtg9-J5UpCcg-PWu57-V4pAXwLQ9TVaUNVADUlF4xeV7h2gDuMhu5fZp9iCE-oV43evPDUGNyDG4EKJABDQ-tx3sMd_P_OIA/s1600/DSC_0183_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-z8FsiLx48YlQpHsrvXM6FvlAF8cTG65IU4txkrpbAb5Jtg9-J5UpCcg-PWu57-V4pAXwLQ9TVaUNVADUlF4xeV7h2gDuMhu5fZp9iCE-oV43evPDUGNyDG4EKJABDQ-tx3sMd_P_OIA/s320/DSC_0183_edited-1.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>

New item in the shop!There is reason to celebrate folks - I've finally completed a project and have listed it in the shop. It's been a pretty long dry spell but it's finally been broken.<br />
<br />
Here's the crocheted blanket I hinted about a couple posts ago:<br />

<br />
I'm shamelessly jumping on this bandwagon because unfortunately I spend a lot of time on Pinterest. I wish I didn't, but then again I wish I didn't have to suck in my gut and lay flat on the bed every time I put on my favorite jeans either. However I'm finding my willpower is just as weak when it comes to sweet DIY pins, as it is when a Little Debbie snack is within arm's reach. . . . Anyway, my point is that I might as well make something productive out of all those wasted hours online - and why not turn my inevitable Pinterest project failures (or maybe even a rare success) into blog content?<br />
<br />
That being said, today I'm launching my first Pinterest project blog post - aptly named: "Pinthetic?" (because I like to try and be clever - and "Pintastrophe" was already taken). <br />
<br />
Let's start with my Pinterest inspiration:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMtWSHRZxVwtZs89NHzf2lOavUIQ9HBOfmVyvDYzNX2vkXqkjUA5U18Jar7LNZOZfVD9iVz_DtVoNLPwfjX7TOfelcwfwrLNuhEVZ82k9MPE00HLHJC3m5BbShbGUQdy2WuQm5TQhHfU4/s1600/eyeballwreath.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="296" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMtWSHRZxVwtZs89NHzf2lOavUIQ9HBOfmVyvDYzNX2vkXqkjUA5U18Jar7LNZOZfVD9iVz_DtVoNLPwfjX7TOfelcwfwrLNuhEVZ82k9MPE00HLHJC3m5BbShbGUQdy2WuQm5TQhHfU4/s320/eyeballwreath.jpg" width="320" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Just look at this <a href="http://www.blogger.com/%3Ca%20href=%22https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMtWSHRZxVwtZs89NHzf2lOavUIQ9HBOfmVyvDYzNX2vkXqkjUA5U18Jar7LNZOZfVD9iVz_DtVoNLPwfjX7TOfelcwfwrLNuhEVZ82k9MPE00HLHJC3m5BbShbGUQdy2WuQm5TQhHfU4/s1600/eyeballwreath.jpg%22%20imageanchor=%221%22%20style=%22margin-left:%201em;%20margin-right:%201em;%22%3E%3Cimg%20border=%220%22%20height=%22296%22%20src=%22https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMtWSHRZxVwtZs89NHzf2lOavUIQ9HBOfmVyvDYzNX2vkXqkjUA5U18Jar7LNZOZfVD9iVz_DtVoNLPwfjX7TOfelcwfwrLNuhEVZ82k9MPE00HLHJC3m5BbShbGUQdy2WuQm5TQhHfU4/s320/eyeballwreath.jpg%22%20width=%22320%22%20/%3E%3C/a%3E%3C/div%3E" target="_blank">spooky eyeball wreath</a>! Perfect for Halloween right? I thought it was a great mixture of scary and gross and whimsical. I couldn't wait to put one together and hang it on my front door. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
When I found plastice eyeballs at the Dollar Tree I knew that me and this wreath were meant to be. I got my eyeballs, my glue gun, my grapevine wreath that I had spray painted black and I got . . . this:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4SeKqZKJ_HPJHejWc3nOBNcNhZbxoAp0JOJ2Tq-eMJ_vWcYdZ_PitXDJagLDk1E6TgEj6Czl21Js8eBc_0gWyG_tHgsLmkTatC2UibkuQFRQ2BHv5dCQQxBgvZ-xnJxF8-itZn7OtDGE/s1600/DSC_0061_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4SeKqZKJ_HPJHejWc3nOBNcNhZbxoAp0JOJ2Tq-eMJ_vWcYdZ_PitXDJagLDk1E6TgEj6Czl21Js8eBc_0gWyG_tHgsLmkTatC2UibkuQFRQ2BHv5dCQQxBgvZ-xnJxF8-itZn7OtDGE/s320/DSC_0061_edited-1.jpg" width="289" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's not horrible right? I mean it kind of looks like the original. My eyeballs were smaller than hers, plus they didn't have the cool red veins and stuff on them that really made the original pop. Oh, and you see those gaps here and there. Yeah, that's where my eyeballs popped off after the hot glue had dried and the cat batted them underneath the furniture and I just didn't have the energy to try and find them. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The original Pin showed the wreath hanging in front of a distressed window with chicken wire in it. Now if Pinterest has taught me anything it's that everything looks better hanging in front of distressed wood and chicken wire. See below:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<strong>without</strong> distressed wood and chicken wire:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaFKG0qrhf47taipcmW4yvXtvZ94ui2csqmapWRO7XXvaNX4AVM9bq9r8q8BgmZLbvjj6GlntbK-1N4skyLnGLKZ9cpAKXEK8s8hyphenhyphenOhaltKnJMbex_DHy71zxx0vyBvn2kI0uqcEmF8VY/s1600/ugly.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaFKG0qrhf47taipcmW4yvXtvZ94ui2csqmapWRO7XXvaNX4AVM9bq9r8q8BgmZLbvjj6GlntbK-1N4skyLnGLKZ9cpAKXEK8s8hyphenhyphenOhaltKnJMbex_DHy71zxx0vyBvn2kI0uqcEmF8VY/s1600/ugly.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>with</strong> distressed wood and chicken wire:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZsvns8_7fy1DaFtoBmq4_MYqUnK1hyphenhyphenqIwsOLAhV6ujPzQLLK5SXikr86mvcI1WGoVRgPhJToL4xvgBAMjkTt23ZIiGBAND9KxrSaCHbbELpWJCNP9xaibcMBaeISFOkzKNlGdBXGxh-E/s1600/Brad.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="276" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZsvns8_7fy1DaFtoBmq4_MYqUnK1hyphenhyphenqIwsOLAhV6ujPzQLLK5SXikr86mvcI1WGoVRgPhJToL4xvgBAMjkTt23ZIiGBAND9KxrSaCHbbELpWJCNP9xaibcMBaeISFOkzKNlGdBXGxh-E/s320/Brad.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But unfortunately I didn't have any distressed wood or chicken wire lying around. I tried hanging it on my front door but it just looked really kind of sad. Like some mentally challenged (oh sorry, it's "Intelectually Disabled" now) person had ranomly glued ping pong balls on a wreath. So I ended up hanging it on the garage - which nobody can see from the street. It's my eyeball wreath of shame. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZG2LwI6WJmHlYm19Mi1xoE3VWp4APmWHgy8ggvOp9GvxBXYrJHAB6nR6aJ8oVXV9ULUgsUzA8SUM6-YYAxlsG2dbfQHljOfTfQRnVH3agPlB6MmjoFLDa1MxoL1oIMAmeo5oQmgicTfI/s1600/DSC_0063_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZG2LwI6WJmHlYm19Mi1xoE3VWp4APmWHgy8ggvOp9GvxBXYrJHAB6nR6aJ8oVXV9ULUgsUzA8SUM6-YYAxlsG2dbfQHljOfTfQRnVH3agPlB6MmjoFLDa1MxoL1oIMAmeo5oQmgicTfI/s320/DSC_0063_edited-1.jpg" width="212" /></a></div>

What do you think? How Pinthetic is it?Pin and Paperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17144325003334135178noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4672264891460644538.post-45455331086972171492012-09-24T20:11:00.002-07:002012-09-24T20:11:46.446-07:00What the Hell?I've been slightly absent from this blog for a little bit (I have a flair for stating the obvious, I know). I have plenty of good excuses: I moved out of my house, moved back into my house, got a different job, freaked out about possible breast cancer which turned out to be just a lumpy tit, and started taking mood enhancing drugs. For full details you'll have to wait until my autobiography is published (dont' hold your breath). <br />
<br />
But it's all water under the bridge my friends, because I'm back . . . typing . . . about stuff. Okay, I've got things to say, really I do. I mean I don't want you to think that during my blog absence I wasn't doing anything crafty. I mean, I pinned a hell of a lot of shit on Pinterest. My 'pin it' button was on fire people!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf00z6CqEH7ZdCtqr7AzV4IT6V7YyFBogwWV0sV_T_2uuPBXQLn5uM-dxRfZjPOoErfXvUANvtIdN8h9hvbX4ejhWp6nc5SHSUaUyOVyA56nYna7cTbFYUhTKEsb4d4Tcr7TuOkIbCcMU/s1600/Picture1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf00z6CqEH7ZdCtqr7AzV4IT6V7YyFBogwWV0sV_T_2uuPBXQLn5uM-dxRfZjPOoErfXvUANvtIdN8h9hvbX4ejhWp6nc5SHSUaUyOVyA56nYna7cTbFYUhTKEsb4d4Tcr7TuOkIbCcMU/s1600/Picture1.png" /></a></div>
What? That doesn't count?<br />
<br />
Ummm, I found some pretty freaky crafts in my Mom's house: <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtPUOP4j-y1RgjNZ284kzrxb6eKCGKC_wEprwB8ozYGLK2DBO_xnWqOzd3UJlNgYE9adYY2NOUgfQNJZRW6KYYvY_JyOH0VwQq8hlX0H6I7LPTEVFKyj57IPalEzQdjMUI_soBcAPx5E0/s1600/IMG_0622.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtPUOP4j-y1RgjNZ284kzrxb6eKCGKC_wEprwB8ozYGLK2DBO_xnWqOzd3UJlNgYE9adYY2NOUgfQNJZRW6KYYvY_JyOH0VwQq8hlX0H6I7LPTEVFKyj57IPalEzQdjMUI_soBcAPx5E0/s320/IMG_0622.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I had nightmares for weeks afterwards. <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixvhTuKugYOHoA9P7DFHud_pc8uumSua08Kz7unWKBlrQlzDcSL5O_SVW_5xmXsOLAQQcf0-WbL-lsx2FYDhm7toBbHtkzz3-ff1qKKQ3cmtOZRsJ5MprbnjE1wEifX1mGvpkbMamcf2M/s320/IMG_0621_edited-1.jpg" width="291" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">No, NO!! She's trying to suffocate me with those pom pom hands!!!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
ahem . . . I've also been working on a fabulous crocheted blanket. My son said to me one day, "Mom, are you going to be working on that for the rest of your life?" It felt like it, it really did, but it's almost finished and hopefully will be in the shop soon. <br /><br />I've got some plans for new stuff for the shop, that may or may not reach fruition. It's hard to tell with me. And I'm also making it my mission to actually do some of the crafts I've pinned on Pinterest and I'll be sharing the success (or more than likely, failures) of those here on this blog. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So to sum things up: Sorry I was gone. I'm back. I don't promise anything spectacular but with the help of prescribed medication, I shall do my best! </div>

I adore IKEA. If anyone has a petition going to get an IKEA into Iowa I will sign it. . . and then legally change my name and sign it again! I suppose I could start a petition myself but hey, I'm busy.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmed1XRZQIjYAQrnLE0eUnALtjr7tzJrsYq-BSGS-ieeFdbAosGCOM1QC579M3S-nsnVV_JSssXKF11ByCsQta0hVndMepceSMPl-aivtvmaaxRQyWpB5P8v83yEQ1p-zf3imTqtRCoFs/s1600/photo+(3).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmed1XRZQIjYAQrnLE0eUnALtjr7tzJrsYq-BSGS-ieeFdbAosGCOM1QC579M3S-nsnVV_JSssXKF11ByCsQta0hVndMepceSMPl-aivtvmaaxRQyWpB5P8v83yEQ1p-zf3imTqtRCoFs/s400/photo+(3).JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
Anywho, as we're strolling through the store checking out all the Lerbergs's and Ekby's and Byholma's, we entered one of the little mini house/apartment displays they have set up within the store. If you've never been to IKEA, they usually have several small display "homes" which showcase what the economy and functionality of their furniure can accomplish in tight quarters. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
As I entered the bedroom of the 380 sq. foot display, something on the wall caught my eye.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Yes, yes it is!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
It was my very own Edward/R Patz silhouette that I offered the free jpeg of on this very blog,<a href="http://www.pinandpaper.blogspot.com/2009/11/embracing-my-inner-13-year-old.html" target="_blank"> back in November of 2009!</a> They had printed it and placed it in one of their frames and used it as decoration in a display inside an IKEA store. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I literally almost crapped myself! I just kept circling this 380 square foot display space like a crazed maniac; snapping photos of the wall with my phone. I mean in the grand scheme of things it's no big deal. Who knows who found it or even where. Maybe some designer from IKEA found it off this blog when she was looking for free artwork to grace the walls and blend with the black and white palette of the room. Maybe they got it off Google Image. Who knows. But there it was, my work being displayed in IKEA!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Now after I explained to my mother why I was circing this room like a vulture and squealing like a pre pubescent girl at a Justin Beiber concert. She asked if I was sure it was mine. I mean after all anyone really can put together a silhouette, especially of someone famous, whose image is everywhere on the web. However, I know my work and I had obsessed enough about those front two curls of hair and whether or not they looked natural, that there was no doubt in my mind.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Here's my original jpeg I offered to all readers:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img class="CSS_LIGHTBOX_SCALED_IMAGE_IMG" closure_uid_k57eox="39" height="1600" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA4tK-Sg7lwQP92fzPs-BPMTsi2JVLTL0SKG3vpuh1gvV2R5QaO-7VWifK-zTq37mevCSw2Xa-8TfKrIABFbudtLa-Doh8DoqQKcKfB74FECEc5UITmaU6Z5bdWReGPBhdWyNnE_5P7W8/s1600/EdwardSilhouette2.jpg" style="height: 485px; width: 262px;" width="864" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Oh yeah, it's mine (with flip and a little bit of stretch, but still mine), and I shall be forever giddy!</div>

So I'm no stranger to the vast and educational wonders of kids programming. One of my daughter's favorites is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Recently I picked up this Valentine themed Mickey Mouse book for her and I was awed and astounded by the real life lessons it bestowed. I couldn't help but share it with you.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDvsGspVUF0qojN4PsBIeis4voUPB6IzPgo89FERrQyHDyoYYkiOa8VTgZBDK8-k6YIzDUQEKpbOe1ydbR0fjnlgWtPQxKZQ3kB41-J621uywTC9rrRfurtsIANI2vM8BjUfSDRsIj_Lk/s1600/DSC_0643.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 370px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708848937915945138" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDvsGspVUF0qojN4PsBIeis4voUPB6IzPgo89FERrQyHDyoYYkiOa8VTgZBDK8-k6YIzDUQEKpbOe1ydbR0fjnlgWtPQxKZQ3kB41-J621uywTC9rrRfurtsIANI2vM8BjUfSDRsIj_Lk/s400/DSC_0643.JPG" /></a> Mickey has just remembered that it's Valentine's day. Here kids learn that fictional anthropomorphised cartoon mice suffer the same stereotypes as human men in that they are always unprepared for romantic holidays.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh944b9DJ5oA83uRWhIz9w_MFVOeIsr4KnJBoSnNDNi2zohoOpB16yuBNwl1Y7SE8wnyvB0eqfN4Xcoq-JFvOYTQRxTX6akxyfCTwn66n0QKfzT7N6BIvcuDkDTQGQnmJNl4F4D39x7gYM/s1600/DSC_0644.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 266px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708848933966337650" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh944b9DJ5oA83uRWhIz9w_MFVOeIsr4KnJBoSnNDNi2zohoOpB16yuBNwl1Y7SE8wnyvB0eqfN4Xcoq-JFvOYTQRxTX6akxyfCTwn66n0QKfzT7N6BIvcuDkDTQGQnmJNl4F4D39x7gYM/s400/DSC_0644.JPG" /></a> Mickey doesn't know what to get Minnie. This is probably because he doesn't really pay much attention to her and takes their relationship purely for granted since she's the only female fictional mouse of his acquaintance and while he fancies Daisy more, interspecies romance is apparently considered taboo in the clubhouse. He's obviously just coasting through this relationship.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg84P-B7AsS5sp94AFaeZiGAFoQo0MnAiHt7sKSSwdpbBGjqGh8eoDLdXgx7iSnIeVX-QEHgZonJt-_1CDylpBY__xFkNpn5IA_zvNU5X6AWuSr7hvRe4rQ5qxcp-L4TRxAyZ3j_CwXqNM/s1600/DSC_0645.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 280px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708848148472285138" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg84P-B7AsS5sp94AFaeZiGAFoQo0MnAiHt7sKSSwdpbBGjqGh8eoDLdXgx7iSnIeVX-QEHgZonJt-_1CDylpBY__xFkNpn5IA_zvNU5X6AWuSr7hvRe4rQ5qxcp-L4TRxAyZ3j_CwXqNM/s400/DSC_0645.JPG" /></a> Luckily a "stranger" appears at the door and offers to assist him with finding the perfect gift. (Is it just me or does this look like something else? Like maybe Mickey's thinking he might see a whole other side of sweet innocent Minnie? Hmmm.)<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4eaQTWqIsrDVD2DXsejG1KNwvthxbyy4X018zy7rENjb621tO8ox84rupqY2QH2qwbJvXVLtEMfiFSf3R_yB8qd-OUNxB94qW_Bc3RiVONdF77FnIE4K6FSWUKvRSd25E2xXw1xVgjPE/s1600/DSC_0649.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 303px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708848128390723714" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4eaQTWqIsrDVD2DXsejG1KNwvthxbyy4X018zy7rENjb621tO8ox84rupqY2QH2qwbJvXVLtEMfiFSf3R_yB8qd-OUNxB94qW_Bc3RiVONdF77FnIE4K6FSWUKvRSd25E2xXw1xVgjPE/s400/DSC_0649.JPG" /></a>However, to set the correct expectations, and perhaps because he's slightly daft, she employs the use of visual aids.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9sbUd87LTl2tbPPUoUEiGup9dkdKTf-0NTTBxRH-HAzG1vpJ90cNTJSzRtU6PKn-tVDG9N8tUd3bECtS2K9dNf_JM_ujA5UyePJRyWgaC-bjE7DAxw5aWbSFmSIZoSYljo3q-zNV-ToI/s1600/DSC_0650.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 329px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708848117116390210" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9sbUd87LTl2tbPPUoUEiGup9dkdKTf-0NTTBxRH-HAzG1vpJ90cNTJSzRtU6PKn-tVDG9N8tUd3bECtS2K9dNf_JM_ujA5UyePJRyWgaC-bjE7DAxw5aWbSFmSIZoSYljo3q-zNV-ToI/s400/DSC_0650.JPG" /></a> "Knit that fine rodent a hat, man!" I can’t even tell you the number of hours I’ve wiled away in front of my laptop screen scrolling through pin after fantastic pin.<br /><br />Pinterest is great. I’ve gotten tons of inspiration, but that’s the problem. It’s inspiration overload, and I’m so drawn to finding that next great inspirational pin, that I never actually create anything based on an idea or pattern I’ve pinned. I don’t have time – I’m pinning too much other crap.<br /><br />It’s taken me a while to accept my addiction and that’s the first step toward recovery. Are you addicted as well? Take the quiz below, and find out.<br /><br />1. Have you even pinned a quote or image about pinning?<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyuGl5_pHTPOUvxdmFG5VD1SrNGjoUz18bOJfhW5hnN0xYt0G2ywh8Mf2vJ8DfsYyYqhK3Ot7Q31SPRgRjiLZkzpxasYfVTDgJgDQDKh8DpkqMggwv3X2UTNWj04SgAn-iw9HUBagUJDg/s1600/pinterest.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 266px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5702166256192243778" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyuGl5_pHTPOUvxdmFG5VD1SrNGjoUz18bOJfhW5hnN0xYt0G2ywh8Mf2vJ8DfsYyYqhK3Ot7Q31SPRgRjiLZkzpxasYfVTDgJgDQDKh8DpkqMggwv3X2UTNWj04SgAn-iw9HUBagUJDg/s400/pinterest.jpg" /></a><br />2. Do you find yourself jealous of your Facebook friends, not because of their great hair, flawless skin, or skinny ass, but because they’ve pinned more cool stuff than you have?<br /><br />3. That's what I loved so much about this project that I created for my best friend's little boy for Christmas.<br /><br />Now Avery is all about superheroes. The kid is frighteningly obsessed with them for a kid so young, and he's got tons of superhero dress up toys, action figures and playsets etc. What he didn't have, was portability...and a swamp made out of felt. That's where I came in.<br /><br />Behold, the portable superhero felt playmat house.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVqcDhB0_kheNoxk-LG8LX0gUpA045Z_s2a-nARnEDdp1o97gMldrUW1KxnoausOkFN0N1WVyugzWBzquSWaHwEPpxSi_2AG-2Sl7_oJoCJwRUa4zKnvEgntysvrPirVjgzczHnLBCGM4/s1600/DSC_0413.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 248px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5688066920891008482" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVqcDhB0_kheNoxk-LG8LX0gUpA045Z_s2a-nARnEDdp1o97gMldrUW1KxnoausOkFN0N1WVyugzWBzquSWaHwEPpxSi_2AG-2Sl7_oJoCJwRUa4zKnvEgntysvrPirVjgzczHnLBCGM4/s400/DSC_0413.JPG" /></a> I based most of my design on the old Justice League cartoons I used to watch. So I had to have some water for Aqua Man, a forest for the Amazonian, Wonder Woman ,the Hall of Justice and the Hall of Doom of course, and then since Batman is both a favorite of mine and Avery's I did a mini Gotham City complete with Bat Signal. I was a little stumped as to what to do next. I attempted Superman's fortress of solitude, but in felt it just looked like a really weird teepee. I ended up doing a section of space instead since superheroes are eager to share their powers with those on other planets as well.<br /><br />Now I wish I had come up with the idea for this playmat on my own, but I didn't. Check out Cook Clean and Craft's awesome tutorial <a href="http://www.cookcleancraft.com/2011/02/felt-car-play-mat-house.html">here</a> for instructions on how to make your very own.<br /><br />Hers is a more traditional car playmat but I changed a few things in mine. Obviously, I changed the theme of the playmat, but I also sewed all of my pieces on instead of glueing. I think in general glueing felt is fine. However, the child this is going to once pulled the descriptive plaque off of a museum display with his bare hands, and I've personally witnessed his little sister reduce a cell phone to nothing but metal filings and broken plastic chunks. So, it needed to be extra durable.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix_w9fmiIGidSfI_on4HU-UDpErxtL2V7BmUsdPkq78JctvSHOPpjFqIVGpLa5X13nSJS1zKGuU4WgbPA2m752YY3Pe05KtMGD4NIU4n5dLgDNPIV4EXI4wdzfhmlxBckR_LXkuLzX6Q4/s1600/DSC_0415.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; Thank you.<br /><br />I peruse a fair amount of crafting blogs because I’m a crafter, I’m always looking for new ideas, and I need to keep up with current crafting trends to try and make my Etsy shop successful. There are certain sites that I like more than others and I was trying to pinpoint why that is and I think I figured it out the other day.<br /><br />There are a lot of guest bloggers on this particular site, you know the whole, “today we have a guest post from Yolanda of <em>Immorecreativeandthinnerthanyou.com</em> and she’s going to show us how she made this fabulous ruffled burlap poached egg cozy”. Which is then followed by a short introduction about how sassy and funny and creative Yolanda is. Then Yolanda gets to chime in and show us how creative and sassy and funny she is by free forming a few sentences about herself which only proves that she thinks she’s sassy but she’s really not.<br /><br />This of course includes a description of how she left her fortune 500 job to stay at home with her adorable children who are the light of her life (insert photo of her looking like a recently retired runway model, her husband who just looks whipped, and her perfectly coiffed children dressed in Gap fashions sitting on a fabulous vintage couch set in the middle of a field and photoshopped so that the couch and the people are in color and the rest is in artsy black and white and the photographer did that thing where they tilted their camera at an angle, because you know they were too sophisticated to take straight photos).<br /><br />Then comes the tutorial in which we get a view of Yolanda’s crafting area which of course is its own separate room and furnished to look like a Martha Stewart Crafts magazine layout. Oh and she’s doing this while her sweet lovely children are napping, or attending the local Montessori academy. And well, at that point I just start getting a little sick. I know Yolanda is not as perfect as she seems. I know that just out of camera shot she’s probably got a pile of laundry and an empty bottle of booze. But when you’ve seen 20 guest bloggers and they all are so good at pulling off this perfect sassy, creative, fun mommy crafter thing, it just starts to really make me feel inadequate.<br /><br />I work 48 hours a week. I can only get something done in the wee hours of the morning or when I’m allowing my children to rot their brains out with excessive video gaming. My crafting space is wedged in the corner of my basement between the litter boxes and our far too extensive collection of Rockband guitars, and my children haven’t posed for a decent photo without making a goofy grin or having their hand in their mouths or in their pants since they were 1. I can’t remember the last time I had the courage to look at myself in a full length mirror, and when I walk through the mall, those gals at the eyebrow threading kiosk practically beg me to get my eyebrows done- not because they want the business but because they really think they’ll be doing society a favor by taming the two caterpillars currently residing above my eye sockets.<br /><br />So I’ve decided to take a break from craft blog perusing. I don’t really need to know how to cover everything not nailed down in burlap, and despite what some people think, not everything needs ruffles. I love ruffles as much as the next gal but you do not need ruffles on your lampshade, and you do not need a ruffled camera strap cover. Really…stop with the ruffles already.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguF21R_o2_XpK0JumdEoA4fytV1_9BQ0OFhrDiE81_CrwPHpN29zVyacC2pfKz1-pA7k5DVGfD7r_nQIIbYaH5MVHVymF5vSRPAoMIuiJHKahzRGiMhsOh4i6Ip1pvolBupMO79n_BctY/s1600/ruffledpillowscropped.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 243px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5680942865328956210" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguF21R_o2_XpK0JumdEoA4fytV1_9BQ0OFhrDiE81_CrwPHpN29zVyacC2pfKz1-pA7k5DVGfD7r_nQIIbYaH5MVHVymF5vSRPAoMIuiJHKahzRGiMhsOh4i6Ip1pvolBupMO79n_BctY/s400/ruffledpillowscropped.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><div>I imagine sitting on this couch would be like being trapped in your great Aunt Ida's bosom when she hugs you at your cousin's wedding while wearing that ruffled chiffon shirtthat she's worn to every special occasion since 1968. </div><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYXdy6faBf54f199jJDrmq1zGTj3AsYzseICqrIQmfuA4hXALfNAve6O8VoQiT7dEfxWqQYXK6Knwy3xZktbVBhlSrM8GBHTZGwii_CIQZ5upV5lpBpQF0BODQ__Mjlmh9KdsfrCPGfwk/s1600/ruffleblouse-romancetrend-fashion-110211-med.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5680942869340667122" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYXdy6faBf54f199jJDrmq1zGTj3AsYzseICqrIQmfuA4hXALfNAve6O8VoQiT7dEfxWqQYXK6Knwy3xZktbVBhlSrM8GBHTZGwii_CIQZ5upV5lpBpQF0BODQ__Mjlmh9KdsfrCPGfwk/s400/ruffleblouse-romancetrend-fashion-110211-med.jpg" /></a> "Ida, you're squeezing too tight and I think your Avon perfume is giving me a rash on my face!"<br /><br />Sorry. Let's just say that it's a good thing that fake spiderwebs and paper cutouts are cheap because I tend to go a little overboard! And speaking of cheap. Check out this adorable shark treat bag that I whipped up out of some inexpensive felt.<br /><br /><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigXyqywEjlHker8kAJyBze-OVXjhPv6t7sMgLer5ybXUNmVPfOww_gujU0yDcFGOKUXJyWwEThWQv38FpW_PnjY8OkZv-ywUWhBw2N1p2i030h6gOt8SrRrkYTb1NEC3ktyzJm_w-JZ04/s1600/DSC_0286.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 267px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5664219136091760018" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigXyqywEjlHker8kAJyBze-OVXjhPv6t7sMgLer5ybXUNmVPfOww_gujU0yDcFGOKUXJyWwEThWQv38FpW_PnjY8OkZv-ywUWhBw2N1p2i030h6gOt8SrRrkYTb1NEC3ktyzJm_w-JZ04/s400/DSC_0286.JPG" /></a>Now, if this cute little shark treat bag looks familiar, that's because it was inspired by a product in a well known store catalog. I won't say which catalog, but I will say that it rhymes with Lottery Yarn. Let me just say (so I can't possibly be sued) that this bag was made completely by me, from a pattern I drew up myself which was inspired by a product that I saw, only visually. I do not intend to sell this product, nor the pattern and I'm sharing it freely for people to use solely for personal use.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnQaautIzQz2T7fNy6Zt2YPiR7eZiZatkVWZ5dw77oqxJTQlTm2ji4v4US-P963DDGzi9156naX3pH6Y_xM5UynHyipkWsoZUVQUNKVmn0sf01xL1kwvlKgmcwZJ1IFwB3LjHgRbj4QiM/s1600/DSC_0297.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 266px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5664219139897218738" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnQaautIzQz2T7fNy6Zt2YPiR7eZiZatkVWZ5dw77oqxJTQlTm2ji4v4US-P963DDGzi9156naX3pH6Y_xM5UynHyipkWsoZUVQUNKVmn0sf01xL1kwvlKgmcwZJ1IFwB3LjHgRbj4QiM/s400/DSC_0297.JPG" /></a><br />Okay, now that that's out of the way, let's get started. You'll only need a few supplies:<br /><br />Felt: I just bought small craft sheets of grey and white felt for the teeth and gums, but you'll need to buy it off the bolt for the body of the shark, 1/2 yard should be sufficient.<br />Basic sewing supplies: scissors, thread, sewing machine etc.<br />This pattern: <a href="http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/3201389/shark-treat-bag-pattern-1-2-meg?da=y">Click here to view</a><br />Cut out the pattern pieces. In addition you'll need to cut the following:<br />2 strips of blue (or main color) for the handle: 16 inches by 1 1/2 inches<br />2 strips of grey (or gum color): 1 inch by 9 inches, and 1 inch by 12 inches<br />2 strips of white (or teeth color): 1 1/2 inches by 8 1/2 inches, and 1 1/2 inches by 11 1/2 inches<br /><br />Now these pictures will seem odd because the bag is already mostly assembled. However, I learned the hard way that it's much easier to add the eyes and gill embellishments before assembly than after. So I would suggest that you do those first.<br /><br />I simply sewed the black felt eyes on to the main head pieces and then marked chalk lines where I wanted the gills, and stitched a small tight zigzag.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB5Yb_JnL_5GOiagxWe-PxW8JWOnIyafAN96Ehs716ueoYC7tQq7MkDCYiPCzIERs-u3XZRjEAYhWej1jcEDGP8Y90EsmSCOJSbontfWVTQwWIt9C8w5opiUvRgW38PHtE1b2QTrUY0OM/s1600/DSC_0273.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 323px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5664225617245061010" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB5Yb_JnL_5GOiagxWe-PxW8JWOnIyafAN96Ehs716ueoYC7tQq7MkDCYiPCzIERs-u3XZRjEAYhWej1jcEDGP8Y90EsmSCOJSbontfWVTQwWIt9C8w5opiUvRgW38PHtE1b2QTrUY0OM/s400/DSC_0273.JPG" /></a> Once this is done, take your two fin pieces and sew them together. I just freehanded this but you could make a template if you prefer. I rounded the teeth but if you want a more realistic shark you could certainly make them smaller and pointier. Notice how the gum strips are slightly longer. I rounded the edges of the gums with my scissors so they would recede into the mouth.<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMQMEOo8I6JHqbOJnhyoZ5cS9ubOfZnQiTU8gyqo2bfICFaxmnixz0mq35zT75ejui5IbTNRerRyNdoFPv8PDGdS9x8JfYVnzVynTw0fvI7Wmsbu8QZpVeKe9zHNB47r1jUonBzDnE93U/s1600/DSC_0270.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 354px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5664217279507420338" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMQMEOo8I6JHqbOJnhyoZ5cS9ubOfZnQiTU8gyqo2bfICFaxmnixz0mq35zT75ejui5IbTNRerRyNdoFPv8PDGdS9x8JfYVnzVynTw0fvI7Wmsbu8QZpVeKe9zHNB47r1jUonBzDnE93U/s400/DSC_0270.JPG" /></a>Before we can attach the teeth to the head, we need to assemble the strap. I topstitched with a contrasting thread so you could see it, but you'll want to use a matching thread color.<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixLZweT0eqsQaX3349I_kwE2BtbTgT0vijZTpzTqc9EEWMErRp2ZG4RZgqdL0smZCXY2qns793tTabAOU_nNOVj8q5_DGmAVvoEQrVUqqEjJ4RT2LqN2c_4L7yNcYO_FaFnrEvWKiRHXg/s1600/DSC_0272.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 281px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5664216272939357586" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixLZweT0eqsQaX3349I_kwE2BtbTgT0vijZTpzTqc9EEWMErRp2ZG4RZgqdL0smZCXY2qns793tTabAOU_nNOVj8q5_DGmAVvoEQrVUqqEjJ4RT2LqN2c_4L7yNcYO_FaFnrEvWKiRHXg/s400/DSC_0272.JPG" /></a> Now all that's left is to turn your bag right sides in, sew on the bottom and then turn right side out.<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbjKQ8KJA6ElaBmB1v9FDnHmxacOsK_tkZKaW53FJ6j_kxY4sWBlFbrSYv8KwOzBlmQJsKmj5hyphenhyphen_d_0RuA-e5Ovf_bGMkgvG8JRCxl7_CVHidZlnH21orlqTReoMDglO7MDRSBouJ9_IM/s1600/DSC_0274.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 384px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5664216266881025234" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbjKQ8KJA6ElaBmB1v9FDnHmxacOsK_tkZKaW53FJ6j_kxY4sWBlFbrSYv8KwOzBlmQJsKmj5hyphenhyphen_d_0RuA-e5Ovf_bGMkgvG8JRCxl7_CVHidZlnH21orlqTReoMDglO7MDRSBouJ9_IM/s400/DSC_0274.JPG" /></a> Then you're done! Most of them involve whipped cream or that stuff that’s inside a Little Debbie oatmeal creme pie, and then there’s the Iowa State Fair.
<br />
<br />I love the fair, I adore it. And it’s not just for the food, though that is a big part of it. It’s for the atmosphere, the free entertainment, the people watching AND the crafts.
<br />
<br />I always find things that amaze and amuse me. This year was no different. Allow me to take you on a little virtual tour of the crafty highlights.
<br />
<br />First off, let me say that I truly believe quilting is an art form. I’m a little bit of a quilter myself, not a great one, but enough of one to know the time, money, dedication and true skill it takes to create a beautiful quilt.
<br />
<br />This one below has all the makings of a winner. It makes you really want to wrap it around yourself and snuggle up close.
<br />
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPOoQM07bGiwuKkv3SVDeY7mSKy-f8jGKG1iDQ76_Fj9yM2WpJYjnCAvzyp53PESqtb8zO-7IXqCCxGHKMeQYindR47oSFtd9l8o4U2SrO2YEIYfxZF-FNjsbiiYhI-jv14XjManjXCXY/s1600/DSC_0533_edited-3.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 226px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5644987447880530818" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPOoQM07bGiwuKkv3SVDeY7mSKy-f8jGKG1iDQ76_Fj9yM2WpJYjnCAvzyp53PESqtb8zO-7IXqCCxGHKMeQYindR47oSFtd9l8o4U2SrO2YEIYfxZF-FNjsbiiYhI-jv14XjManjXCXY/s400/DSC_0533_edited-3.jpg" /></a> I was quite shocked that it didn't win a ribbon. I mean look at the craftsmanship; the intricate detail...
<br />

<br />
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiXHZv-dBXSiZuF5njPCTZYw96mDqzB4o9Vc1qHTFTBLRXqeGlKfGLlJdrpHaxPZKqqZMcY5MjmKMN9Yf6cWh3qHlD6TObvH0oo3gcBZRQ1KOlE999-uJlvIyZ6GGj6JhIIUNlDSkvlVk/s1600/DSC_0534_edited-1.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 368px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5644987428878444626" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiXHZv-dBXSiZuF5njPCTZYw96mDqzB4o9Vc1qHTFTBLRXqeGlKfGLlJdrpHaxPZKqqZMcY5MjmKMN9Yf6cWh3qHlD6TObvH0oo3gcBZRQ1KOlE999-uJlvIyZ6GGj6JhIIUNlDSkvlVk/s400/DSC_0534_edited-1.jpg" /></a> The best part though is that it was made by a man, and quite frankly I was happy for him to have his work displayed where so many could see it.
<br />
<br />
<br /><p>After the quilts I moved on to the yarn arts. What inspiration I found there! One of these two items will be my next winter hat. I just can't decide which one.</p>
<br /><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhj-nVEGvb6JVCTY2pfg2ZF63YvuIYGOXA3zAZyhuOcOO3nZEqMhgGD0leCUN7tlhnp2eoz91FfuVNbigYvnB-Bc_pfMfkY6_3b9Zq-EqTUpCzZ_fbYiz1eY3-2ydG8Z6O8sU_yynur6Ds/s1600/DSC_0536.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 255px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5644985780000912098" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhj-nVEGvb6JVCTY2pfg2ZF63YvuIYGOXA3zAZyhuOcOO3nZEqMhgGD0leCUN7tlhnp2eoz91FfuVNbigYvnB-Bc_pfMfkY6_3b9Zq-EqTUpCzZ_fbYiz1eY3-2ydG8Z6O8sU_yynur6Ds/s400/DSC_0536.JPG" /></a> or

I'd be tempted to pair the viking hat only with outfits that incorporate some type of breast plate, and well that's just not always practical.
<br />
<br />Now this next piece is truly unique. Take it in folks:
<br />
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3YfmxIP1kMkXUARpXCi2e1pNW-6XxuvY4RA19Ime_Pv58JDhZldQ9dckUFOtSFE8Ak6t-S9FEIdMICYRkLk6YccQaPheJ4IPrPDZXuV62sp5HLAjLMt3RbfMFuLfAXMlca_6Qs3oJ5YM/s1600/DSC_0459.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 266px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5644993178149074530" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3YfmxIP1kMkXUARpXCi2e1pNW-6XxuvY4RA19Ime_Pv58JDhZldQ9dckUFOtSFE8Ak6t-S9FEIdMICYRkLk6YccQaPheJ4IPrPDZXuV62sp5HLAjLMt3RbfMFuLfAXMlca_6Qs3oJ5YM/s400/DSC_0459.JPG" /></a> Yep, it's an oreo cook afghan. I can't really say anything more about it. I'm that speechless.
<br />
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzylaeSI3lQ9BSysVDFHss_igEjrWowyinm3tyfbw_8I7VIChuyX96JDfrrl7wHyeKGbPIGK_IxpjuN_R5asdAHIFtOUvOnclPpf7t17LvZ_TXPO-trTzlh1AnHOOi4rhJmX-bzjUNQ0U/s1600/DSC_0459_edited-1.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 346px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5644993190169224674" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzylaeSI3lQ9BSysVDFHss_igEjrWowyinm3tyfbw_8I7VIChuyX96JDfrrl7wHyeKGbPIGK_IxpjuN_R5asdAHIFtOUvOnclPpf7t17LvZ_TXPO-trTzlh1AnHOOi4rhJmX-bzjUNQ0U/s400/DSC_0459_edited-1.jpg" /></a>
<br />Now aside from the fabric arts I'm always blown away by the talent displayed in the fine arts buildings at the fair. This next piece shows true artistry and skill, and yet I feel like the choice of canvas was well... a little crappy.</p>
<br /><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjavVQiQAuM-Jcxhjgq4Hjw5lCbLqNQQUqS0bW_j_LlgDAgGpwz1MczzuWjYbLR2rytCC1Gv4VIJsFRPgU7ZiQZ2x7sfQ0M0v6El8WSdPOWeMICPMxH1WqYgktY8_rL2T2Bbhlxevs3X4U/s1600/DSC_0515_edited-1.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 329px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5644985759173276146" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjavVQiQAuM-Jcxhjgq4Hjw5lCbLqNQQUqS0bW_j_LlgDAgGpwz1MczzuWjYbLR2rytCC1Gv4VIJsFRPgU7ZiQZ2x7sfQ0M0v6El8WSdPOWeMICPMxH1WqYgktY8_rL2T2Bbhlxevs3X4U/s400/DSC_0515_edited-1.jpg" /></a> I don't really know what disturbs me more, the tongue? the goatee? or maybe it's just the fact that someone has painted a man with a goatee and his tongue sticking out on the lid of a toilet seat...yep, I think that's it.
<br />
<br />I also adore looking at the miniature houses and rooms. The time, effort and dedication put into these small replicas always make me smile. This one especially caught my eye. It's fabulous in and of itself, and then as I looked closer I determined that the man behind the counter was none other than Dr. McCoy from Star Trek!
